

Explore the Village
The village of SIVAS is located 62 km South from Heraklion Crete Greece, on the western slope of the Asterousia mountains, and just a breath away from beautiful beaches. Still, visitors can discover traces its millennial history during a walk through the village where you can admire many old houses and monuments, which have been preserved through the centuries.
Sivas was classified by the Ministry of Culture of Greece as a traditional and protected village.
The residents, around 400, are proud of their village and preserve the beauty and the traditional character. In the course of years and decades, more and more foreigners have recognized the charm of Sivas and settled here.
Sivas is accessible via the main North South axis of the island from Heraklion (Iraklion) but also from Rethymno through the Spili route. There are regular bus services from Heraklion and Mires.

CENTRAL SQUARE
On the Platia (Square), the heart of the village you can shop, visit the pottery workshop, eat in one of the many taverns or simply enjoy a cup of coffee while your children play on the playground.
On the village square is also the Agios Ioannis Church.
The local cultural Association organizes various cultural events. Especiall in Summer "the Sivas Cultural August".
The streets around the square are perfect for a discovery walk to admire the impressive ottoman and venetian architecture that Sivas houses characterized by.

NEARBY PLACES
Many of the surrounding villages can be reached by foot walk and there as well, it is worth to stroll through the streets.
Lístaros, Kamilari, Pitsidia, Petrokefali, Kouses (a herbs store "Votano" is located) there are within a walking distance but also through old Minoan paths you can even walt to famous Matala Beach.
These villages unite in a perfect manner the traditional Cretan way of life, the genuine hospitality and warmness of its inhabitants.
Don't miss also the Zaros lake area, the gorge Agios Nikolaos, Rouvas forest but also Kamihis farm.

EXCURSION BASE
Sivas can be the base of excursions around Crete. Odigitrias monastery is just a breath away.
It is located close to the archaeological sites of Gortys, Agia Triada, Phaistos, Knossos and the beaches Matala, Komos and Kalamaki.
You can also hike down the Agiofarago Gorge, stopping at the old church of Agios Antonios and ending to the beach.You can also visit the palm tree forest in Martsalos.
Just an hour away from Heraklion, Rethymno and a couple of hours from Chania, Agios Nikolaos and Ierapetra.
